The Edirne license was originally awarded to Petrako in 31.10.2003, now
managed by joint venture partners US Trans Atlantic / PEMI (55%), AUS Otto
Energy / Edirne Energy (35%) and TR Petrako (10%) acting as a joint operator.
To date, nine gas discoveries have been made (2006-2009) on the license
with well testing successfully completed in 2008 - 2009.
The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) has also granted the JV a
wholesale gas license. The JV will be the first to produce and sell onshore
Turkish gas directly into the extensive BOTAS gas distribution network, which
enables the sale of gas anywhere in Turkey for the best possible price, discount
to the BOTAS price.
The gas produced by the JV will be sold to a local gas distribution company
for a 5 years contract in Turkey via BOTAS network. For sale the gas, a
complicated gathering, processing and transmission system was built including 2
compression stations, 1 metering station and 9 km of export pipeline.
Construction of all facilities was completed while testing and commissioning
works are on going.
Following the % 100 drilling success of prospects delineated by previous
3D data, the Joint Venture is now acquiring an additional 100 km2 of seismic
data over the western part of the licence area. Petrako anticipates that further
similiar low risk prospects will be identified on the new seismic, providing the
potential for further drilling sucess and addition to the reserve base.
